What is an arts residency?

Arts residencies provide artists with time, space, and resources to work, individually or collectively, on the creation and development of their practice and on works in progress.

An arts residency can offer the recipient the opportunity to experience what it would be like to work as a paid artist, before their career has evolved to that point. The experience of being treated like a working artist creates confidence and gives the artist a boost by generating material/creative capital to get to the next level in their career. Many artists and writers get their first real start through a creative residency.

404 Found Residency

The 404 FOUND Arts Residency gives artists a nice comfortable place to stay and a work area with everything needed for their creative projects, in a beautiful setting immersed in nature. The artists will be supported financially to be able to take off to 2-8 weeks from their regular lives in order to come to the residency and do their creative work in their chosen mediums, such as visual art, music, dance, theatre, writing, and filmmaking.

Our Why?

We seek to create spaces of creativity and healing that marginalized communities do not usually have access to. All artists deserve love, rest, support, and care so that our creative minds may flourish and experience freedom and connection.

The residency gives the artist a chance to produce work that can be published or exhibited after their stay. It’s a way to cultivate a body of intellectual property (IP) to be able to move forward and advance careers.
