What is an arts residency?
According to the Artist Communities Alliance, ARTS RESIDENCIES provide artists, scholars, educators and other creative professionals with time, space and resources to work, individually or collectively, on the research and development of their practice.
An artist residency offers the recipient the opportunity to experience what it would be like to work as a paid artist, before their career has evolved to that point. The experience of being treated like a working artist creates confidence and gives the artist a career boost. Many artists and writers get their first real start through a creative residency.
